  1. I like the analysis a lot. This FCB team is good, but needs time. Wanted to add though that the wingers need time to work together with Lewandowski. Particularly Rafinha, who couldn't connect with both Lewandowski and Jordi Alba. The entrance of Fati improved things a lot, he is a special player for his age. As for the midfield, Busquets used to be amazing, but it is definitely not the old Busquets. He is basically a step or two slower and that's a lot in Football. That's why I believe Frenkie De Jong is imo the best player for this position and you could really see that when Fati and DeJong entered the game, FCB played way better. Finally, even though I like Gavi a lot, I feel he needs time as you could really see that he is still very immature — not like Pedri. Pedri is a problem solver (unbelievable for his age), whereas as Gavi runs more on emotions than his brain. Kessie did amazing when he entered and connected really well with the forwards. I would have DeJong, Kessie and Pedri in the midfield. Busquets is still good, but not as a starter for every match. But as a leader of the dressing room and starter for some matches.

  2. Barca created enough chances, but very few clear ones. This type of performance would probably put them in a decent position across a season in a league, but would likely get them knocked out in tournaments.

One of the issues that Barca currently have (besides the ones pointed out) is that once they've progressed the ball into the opposition third, they have the opposition pinned back… But then they find no space.

This is because opponents have determined that if they play a narrow low block and don't chase Barca players around, the chances Barca create are relatively low quality and/or far from goal.

Sort of in line with what you said, our forwards are too likely to take on the shot from bad positions instead of laying off the ball, where a free shooting lane exists. And our midfielders are both not being found when they make late runs in, while our forwards are not moving to create gaps in the opposition defense for these midfield runs to be effective.

Simply put, our forwards need to move coordinatedly with our midfield to drag defenders and free the runners. Moreover, to disrupt the backline.

The number of blocked shots tell us the story of how well the defenders are positioned in front of our shots. This explains that we are not moving their defenders enough, whether because we are not moving the ball fast enough or because our players are not moving enough.

In this match, it was both.

Besides this (stagnant attack in sustained final third pressure), we did have a very good game. xG of ~2 to ~.5 is good for us. If we add in a couple high quality chances through good movement of any sort, life will be good

  3. This is some bullshit. You think Busquets and Pedri are the Men of the Match? And the fault was Dembele and Raphinha? No mention whatsoever of all the chances created by Dembele? No mention at all about Lewandowski being invisible all game? What the?
